Hayle Runners Main Group Shot

Whether you’re competitive or just looking to lose weight and get fit...

...We’re the club for you

We are the largest running club in Cornwall and have about 200 active members. The Club was founded in 1995 and began with just a handful of runners who were mostly men. Over the years the Club has grown strongly and our main run on a Tuesday night now attracts more than 100 runners. Comfortably more than half the members are now women, with many in the 21-35 age group.

But we also have many members over 60 (who include some of our fastest) and our youngest member is 19 (excluding the Junior Club). We come from all walks of life, from doctors and nurses to postmen and farmers, office workers, police officers, hoteliers, teachers, secretaries, students, surfers and the busy retired.

We run in groups, depending on speed and mood on the night (very important). We promise we will have a group which will suit you.Our slowest group is the walk and run group and our fastest is the elite where runners would expect to train at about 6 – 6.30 min miles and race faster (depending on distance).

As a club, Hayle Runners are adhering to the Covid Laws for England and also the guidelines from England Athletics. Our group sizes will reflect this and all runners must book onto a group and be willing to provide a number for track and trace

Our groups no longer all meet at Hayle Rugby Club but at various locations around Hayle, Camborne and Helston. This is to avoid gathering in numbers and to show due respect to the Hayle Community. The meeting times vary between groups from 5.30 pm to 7.15pm.

We are no longer able to have anyone just turn up on the night. If you would like to come and run with us please contact Diane Warren, our Membership Secretary, diane.warren54@gmail.com and you will be sent a form to complete. There is no charge to try us out but after this we hope you will want to join, what is probably the friendliest club in Cornwall.

Membership fees are as follows:

  • Full membership: £40

  • Under 26: £15

  • Second claim membership: £15

  • Free for under 18 or over 70

All we ask is that you must uphold the 2 metre rule and please take your own hand sanitizer. PLEASE be courteous, walk past members of the public and let them know you’re trying to be careful. We try not to run through Hayle as a group but stay in areas that are out of town.

PLEASE don’t run if you are feeling unwell in any way, stay safe and think of others.

We meet three times a week, rain or shine:

Tuesdays and Thursdays – Hayle Rugby Club (behind Marks & Spencer on the A30), ready to run at 7pm. In the summer, groups run on quiet country lanes, across the Towans, on the beach and along the coast path. In the winter we run through the town on well lit streets.

Also on a Thursday we offer an alternative track session at the Carn Brea Leisure Centre, ready to run at 7pm. There is an additional fee of £1 per member per week for this and £2 per week for non members. Please bring a friend if you’d like to.

Sundays – these are longer runs, usually aimed at half or full marathon training, and of varying distances and locations. They usually start at 9am but always end at a cafe for tea and cake.

We have been awarded the Club Mark status by Sport England. This is a national accreditation scheme which was set up to recognise clubs which have established a successful and worthwhile junior section. In order to win accreditation clubs have to meet a set of quality standards. They have to show initiatives to encourage young people to take up sport, to improve their talents and to help them to develop a life long commitment to taking part in sport.
